The chemical composition of 310 stainless steel is listed: 0.1 mass% C, 2.0 mass% Mo, 0.65 mass% Si, 0.2 mass% Ti, 0.2 mass% Zr, 25 mass% Cr, 20 mass% Ni, 0.15 mass% W, 0.15 mass% V, balance mass% Fe.

Austenitic stainless steels have diverse applications due to their combination of good high-temperature creep strength and oxidation resistance. The reactive elements of Cr, Ni and Si contribute significantly to enhancing the oxidation resistance of austenitic stainless steels.

310 Stainless Steel alloy provides good malleability and weld-ability with superb high temperature properties. Because of these superb high temperature properties, 310 stainless steel alloy is often used in furnace parts, oil burner parts, carburizing boxes, heat treatment baskets and jigs, heat exchangers and welding filler wire and electrodes. Even though it is not typically used in cryogenic environments, it remains exceedingly tough in cryogenic temperatures. On the Rockwell B hardness scale, 310 stainless steel alloy has a hardness of 95. Stainless steel grade 310 provides excellent resistance to corrosion because of its high chromium content.
